WHAT WE DO
We are building a model of energy democracy in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood by establishing a community-owned solar cooperative.
Â
Through community capital and cooperative ownership, RECO is expanding access to local green careers, reducing household energy burdens, and building neighborhood equity.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Unlike traditional utility companies that extract profits from communities, RECO keeps financial benefits local. Our community solar projects generate clean electricity from sunlight and feed it into the power grid. RECO sells this power to the local utility, and our subscribers receive a direct credit on their monthly bill for their share of the solar energy produced

ENERGY DEMOCRACY

RECO: A WISDOM CONNECTIONÂ INITIATIVE
The Renewable Energy Cooperative (RECO) is a worker- and consumer-owned solar business based in Roseland on Chicago's Far Southside.

We operate within the Wisdom Connection Initiative, a neighborhood network stewarded by the Black woman-owned WisConnect Holding Cooperative (LWCA). WisConnect is composed of Black woman-owned businesses supporting Black woman entrepreneurs and their communities.

In this video, our members and founders share the story of how RECO came to be and what we stand for. As the clean energy arm of the WisConnect ecosystem, we are practicing energy democracy by keeping utility wealth local and under resident control.
